Advocate staff photo by BILL FEIG -- LSU fullback John David Moore (44) pulls in the pass as South Carolina cornerback Chris Lammons (3) gives chase during the first half Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, in Tiger Stadium.

Starting fullback John David Moore will miss the remainder of the season, coach Les Miles said Monday - the second key run-blocking player lost this year.

Moore, a former walk-on who received a scholarship this fall, re-injured his left knee during the second quarter of the loss to Alabama. He joins starting tight end Dillon Gordon as players lost for the season.

Both situations are similar. Moore strained a knee ligament against South Carolina and missed the next two games. Gordon, the 310-pounder who served as the Tigers' third tackle, suffered an Achilles injury against Auburn, missed a month and then re-injured the Achilles against Western Kentucky. He had surgery a couple of weeks ago.

Moore, a sophomore, led the way for running back Leonard Fournette this season. Fournette has called the fullback his "flashlight." Freshman Bry'Kiethon Mouton is Moore's backup.

"Obviously, one of our best fullbacks is no longer with us," Miles said. "But the good news is that Bry'Kieton Mouton is coming on. We'll have a good group there, David Ducre. We'll have a well-manned position."
