HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The opening round of stroke play at the NCAA men’s golf championships was suspended Friday evening following more than eight hours of weather delays.

Play is scheduled to resume for the first round at 7 a.m. Saturday at Prairie Dunes Country Club. No. 15 seed LSU never started its round Friday.

Lightning and thunderstorms stopped play three times Friday as the opening round was delayed 8 hours, 10 minutes before play was suspended at 6:18 p.m.

The first teams to hit the course Friday morning were only able to play as many as 11 holes, while teams in the afternoon wave did not tee off at all.

LSU was scheduled to tee off from the back nine beginning at 2 p.m. Friday. It now will tee off for the first time Saturday.
