Johnny O'Bryant may be a freshman, but he was a man among boys in the first round of the SEC Tournament Thursday.
O'Bryant came off the bench to score 18 points and grab 11 rebounds, lifting LSU to a 70-54 win over Arkansas at the New Orleans Arena.
LSU (18-13) beat Arkansas for the second time in three meetings and advanced to play No. 1 Kentucky Friday afternoon in a quarterfinal game. The win also boosted the Tigers' to earn a berth in at least the National Invitation Tournament.
LSU outrebounded Arkansas 41-28 and generally dominated inside. Justin Hamilton scored 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting and added seven rebounds. Storm Warren, who started instead of usual starter O'Bryant, added 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Tigers also got competitive guard play. Andre Stringer added 11 points, Ralston Turner had 10, and Anthony Hickey had 7 points and seven assists.
Arkansas (18-14) was led by B.J. Young's 13 points.
LSU dominated the second half after a 28-28 tie at halftime. O'Bryant spearheaded the charge with 12 points and seven rebounds after halftime.</
