The Advocate's writers have made their picks for LSU vs. No. 1 Alabama on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Rabalais: Everyone sees LSU as huge underdogs to Alabama ... except the Tigers

ROSS DELLENGER:

Alabama 27, LSU 10

Les Miles is no longer coach at LSU for several reasons, but one of them is because he lost his last five games to the Crimson Tide. That streak went to six under then-interim coach Ed Orgeron last season. Beating Bama is a must for the Tigers to return to championship levels, but doing it this year is asking a lot.

SHELDON MICKLES:

Alabama 30, LSU 17

Alabama has piled up 17 consecutive wins at home, so it's going to be a difficult task to beat them in this spot. LSU put up a pretty good fight for 3½ quarters last season, so maybe it has the formula. Maybe not. The Tigers keep it close for a half this time, but the Crimson Tide is just too strong again.

SCOTT RABALAIS:

Alabama 24, LSU 6

It's hard to construct a path to victory for the Tigers unless Alabama commits multiple turnovers and/or LSU gets a defensive/special teams touchdown. Sustained drives will be hard to come by against the nation's top-ranked defense barring some busted plays resulting from Matt Canada's tricky offense. Hard to pin hopes on that.

Les Miles says 'it's painful,' but pick for LSU vs. Alabama won't land with former team
