LSU is extending the contract of athletic director Joe Alleva by one year to July 2020.
The LSU Board of Supervisors will vote on the proposed extension at its next meeting next Friday, according to the group’s agenda. Alleva’s extension does not include a raise. He makes $725,000 with incentives that could push his salary to $900,000.
LSU gave Alleva a three-year extension last September, pushing his deal to July 2019.
Alleva’s incentive structure remains the same in his amended contract. He can earn a $50,000 bonus if LSU ranks in the top 10 in the NACDA Director’s Cup rankings and $100,000 for a top-five finish. He can receive another $50,000 bonus if all of LSU’s athletic programs have a graduation rate 5 percent higher than the general student population.
Alleva can receive a management incentive of $25,000 for “financial solvency, no major infractions, substantial contributions to university and surrounding community.”
Alleva is in his eighth year as head of LSU’s athletic department, coming to Baton Rouge in 2008 after a stint as AD at Duke. He has overseen improvements to Tiger Stadium’s exterior and the newly expanded south end zone structure.
LSU has recently built new facilities for gymnastics and tennis. Among Alleva’s major coaching hires have been men’s basketball coaches Trent Johnson and Johnny Jones, women’s basketball coach Nikki Caldwell and softball coach Beth Torina.
