Tuesday’s likely starters

LSU — Jr. RHP Cam Sanders (0-0, 11.25 ERA, 4 IP, 5 BB, 8 K)

Scouting report, LSU: After last week’s up-and-down outing against Grambling, LSU coach Paul Mainieri made it sound like his experiment with Cam Sanders as a starting pitcher was over, but he is going to give Sanders another chance Tuesday. It is not a matter of whether Sanders can get college hitters out with his stuff — his low-90s fastball and sharp curve are outstanding — it is a matter of Sanders proving he can corral that electric repertoire. He needed 83 pitches to get through four innings against Grambling last week and did not record an out in his debut.

Scouting report, Southern: The Jaguars rank No. 5 among Division I teams in steals per game, averaging 2.73 swiped bags per contest. Freshman outfielder Micheal Wright is leading the way with seven stolen bases in nine games, and five Jaguars have stolen at least three bases this season. Mainieri mentioned in his postgame radio session that Nick Coomes would get a midweek start at catcher, but it’s worth wondering if that would come Wednesday since Hunter Feduccia is better at controlling the run game.
