1. GEAUXRILLA BALL, THE REMAKE There were some smart media types (yours truly) who said the home run was dead at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, site of the SEC tournament. LSU turned back the clock to a time when hitting homers was an integral part of its offense. The Tigers left the park six times in four games, including Sean McMullen’s go-ahead, two-run blast against Florida in Sunday’s final.
2. BROTHERS IN ARMS Sunday was LSU’s eighth straight win, but this was the first time the Tigers didn’t dominate offensively. It took pitching to bail LSU out, as Alden Cartwright, Nate Fury, Zac Person and Kurt McCune combined on a two-hit shutout, the Tigers’ 17th this season. In the eight straight wins, LSU has outscored its opponents 87-8, including 31-4 in the SEC tournament.
3. SEEDS OF DOUBT LSU returns to Baton Rouge with a trophy and an NCAA regional bid in hand, but a huge question remains as to whether the Tigers have done enough to merit a national seed with their late-season surge. The proximity of a certain national seed for Louisiana-Lafayette shouldn’t be a factor, but we won’t know until 11 a.m. Monday on ESPNU.
