LSU climbs into top four of coaches poll, receives one first-place vote _lowres

Advocate staff photo by BILL FEIG -- Western Kentucky running back Anthony Wales (20) dives on the ball after the fumble as LSU linebacker Kendell Beckwith (52), safety Jalen Mills (28) and defensive end Tashawn Bower (46) close in during the first half Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, in Tiger Stadium.

LSU jumped one spot to No. 4 in this week’s USA Today/coaches poll. The Tigers (7-0) held onto their lone first-place vote from last week’s edition after pulling away from Western Kentucky for a 48-20 win on a soggy Saturday night.

An open date awaits both LSU and No. 7 Alabama (7-1), which climbed one spot after edging Tennessee, before their SEC West showdown on Nov. 7 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The SEC placed only five team’s in this week’s coaches poll, and Texas A&M fell out of the rankings completely following a 23-3 loss to No. 21 Ole Miss.

Several national college football writers and analysts placed LSU in the top four of their College Football Playoff projections this week.
