LSU softball team finishes No. 3, No. 4 in final polls _lowres

LSU’s semifinal appearance in the Women’s College World Series earned the Tigers a No. 3 ranking in the final USA Today/Coaches poll and No. 4 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25, which were released Tuesday.

LSU (52-18) went 2-2 in the WCWS and was eliminated by eventual national champion Oklahoma in the semifinals. Auburn, which lost to the Sooners in the best-of-three WCWS championship series, was ranked No. 2.

Florida State, which lost to Auburn in the other WCWS semifinal, finished third in the ESPN.com poll.

LSU finished the season where it started in the coaches poll. The Tigers were No. 3 in the preseason poll.

Louisiana-Lafayette, which lost to Oklahoma, in the Norman super regional, was ranked No. 12 in the coaches poll and No. 14 in the ESPN.com poll.

McNeese State, which lost to LSU in the championship of the Baton Rouge regional, received one vote in the coaches poll.
