Former LSU athletic director Joe Dean has passed away. He was 83.
The school confirmed Dean’s passing Sunday morning. Funeral services will be held this coming week in Baton Rouge. Details have not yet been released.
Dean led LSU athletics from 1987-2000, overseeing the baseball team’s five national championships. A two-time All-Southeastern Conference and three-time All-SEC Tournament Team member at LSU from 1949-52, Dean was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame last year.
Dean may be best known for his time as a TV analyst for SEC basketball from 1969-1987. He coined the phrase “String Music” to describe a shot swishing through a net, a line used throughout TV broadcasts today.
