Les Miles makes a mad dash to the mall on Christmas Eve for his Christmas gifts, and his favorite carol is “Santa Baby.”
Those were just some of the things that emerged Monday night at the coach’s final radio show of the 2015 season. The show, held at TJ Ribs, was the final one of play-by-play announcer Jim Hawthorne’s career.
Hawthorne, recently recovered from heart bypass surgery, is retiring after this basketball season.
“I got nothing done,” he said. “I take a run at the mall on Christmas Eve and do it all in a matter of 4-8 hours.”
During a discussion about Christmas carols, Miles revealed his favorite carol: “Santa Baby,” originally sung by Eartha Kitt in 1953.
Other notes from the radio show
- Several times during the radio show, Miles attributed LSU’s three-game losing streak to injuries. TE Dillon Gordon and FB J.D. Moore, two of the Tigers’ key run blockers, missed substantial time with injuries.
- For the first time in his coach career, Miles was carried off the field after the win over Texas A&M. He called the event “scary,” saying that he thought he’d fall off the shoulders of offensive lineman Vadal Alexander and defensive tackle Christian LaCouture.
