The University of Louisiana at Lafayette softball team took a 1-0 win over LSU on Sunday to claim the title in the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional at Tiger Park.

ULL sophomore Jordan Wallace pitched her third consecutive shutout in the three-day tournament, allowing just four hits in beating LSU for the second day in a row.

The Ragin’ Cajuns beat the Tigers 3-0 on Saturday in a winners’ bracket game to advance to the final, while LSU had to beat Central Connecticut State on Saturday night to earn the right to meet ULL again.

LSU (42-16) went into Sunday’s championship game needing to beat ULL (46-13) twice to advance to the NCAA super regionals.

But with Wallace in the circle, the Ragin’ Cajuns needed only one game to clinch a trip to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face the University of Michigan in a best-of-3 super regional series starting Friday.

LSU loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but Wallace slammed the door, getting Bianka Bell to pop out on the first pitch and then striking out Allison Falcon to end the game.

In a Friday win against Northwestern State and in two victories against LSU, Wallace allowed just seven hits in 21 innings. She struck out four, walked four and hit two batters in the title-clinching victory.
