Southern University football player Devon Gales -- a Baton Rouge native who suffered a paralyzing spinal injury in a game at Georgia in September -- threw out the first pitch Tuesday at the Southern vs. LSU baseball game at Alex Box Stadium.

Before returning home in early March, Gales spent five months at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta.

The third-year sophomore plans to return to school and finish his degree.
