Despite a midweek loss to New Orleans for the second time this season, LSU moved back into the top five of two major college baseball rankings after a sweep to open Southeastern Conference play.
The Tigers (16-5, 3-0 SEC) rose to No. 4 and No. 5 in the new Baseball America and D1 Baseball polls, respectively, following LSU's sweep of Georgia.
The Tigers, however, fell one spot to No. 8 in the new Collegiate Baseball Newspaper ranking after its 4-1 week. In the new Perfect Game poll, LSU remained at No. 6.
The Tigers fell out of the top five in all four polls following a 1-2 outing in the Shriners Hospital for Children College Classic in Houston earlier this month. LSU then stayed put in three of the four rankings released last week.
The Tigers were one of six SEC teams to sweep a league foe this weekend, causing some significant movement in the rankings. Florida, which was swept by Auburn, fell in all four polls but is still ranked as high as No. 11 by D1 Baseball.
After hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., LSU will travel to Gainesville this weekend for a series against the Gators.
Texas A&M, which was swept by Kentucky, fell out of the top 25 in all four polls. The Wildcats, along with Auburn and Missouri, climbed into the top 25 of the D1 Baseball rankings. Missouri, which swept Alabama, is now ranked in all four polls after starting the season 19-1. Missouri is ranked as high as No. 5 by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Arkansas, which swept Mississippi State, jumped into the Perfect Game top 25 at No. 24. Vanderbilt, was was swept by Ole Miss, remains ranked in the Perfect Game and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper polls. The Rebels are ranked as high as No. 11 by Perfect Game and Baseball America.
After a 2-2 week, Louisiana-Lafayette fell only one spot from their previous poll positions in the Baseball America, Perfect Game and D1 Baseball rankings. Perfect Game gives the Cajuns their highest current ranking at No. 10.
