LSU defensive end Rashard Lawrence (90) managed to knock the ball loose while sacking Brigham Young quarterback Tanner Mangum (12) but it fell back into the quarterback's hands during the second half at LSU's football season opener against Brigham Young University Saturday Sept. 2, 2017, in New Orleans, La.. LSU won 27-0.

LSU defensive end Rashard Lawrence returned to practice Wednesday after missing Tuesday's drills, but the Tigers were still without starting tackles KJ Malone and Toby Weathersby.

Malone and Weathersby missed a third straight practice, a sign that their status for Saturday's game against No. 10 Auburn (5-1, 3-0) remains very much in doubt. Malone injured his left knee in the win at Florida, and Weathersby is battling "numerous" injuries, coach Ed Orgeron said.

Lawrence's return is a positive sign for an LSU defensive line that could be closer to full strength Saturday as it's been all season. DE Frank Herron practice Wednesday and is expected to return. Lawrence missed Tuesday's drill, but was in full gear Wednesday as he battles the re-injuring of a right ankle sprain.

Redshirt sophomore Adrian Magee practiced some at right tackle in place of Weathersby, instead of freshman Austin Deculus. Freshman Saahdiq Charles was at left tackle for Malone.

Other observations

  • OLB Corey Thompson was out of his gold injury jersey and appeared to practice in full. He's been battling a stinger to his right shoulder/neck.
  • Still in gold (signifying limited contact for injury) were safety John Battle (stinger) and F-back JD Moore (undisclosed).
  • For the first time in several weeks, sophomore cornerback Kristian Fulton was spotted at practice in his own jersey. If he has practiced in the past, it has been in a scout team jersey. Fulton is presumably suspended/ineligible as he has not dressed out for a game yet this season.
