After opening the 2014 season with a 2-0 win over Troy last weekend, LSU welcomes Northwestern State at 7 p.m. Friday at the LSU Soccer Stadium.
Fans can “Geaux Free!” to each of LSU’s 10 remaining home matches during the regular season as admission is free at the LSU Soccer Stadium, compliments of The Advocate.
It’s the first time the teams have played in 13 years as the Tigers (1-0) own a 3-0 mark against the Lady Demons (1-1), including a 1-0 win in 2001.
Northwestern State beat Louisiana College 9-1 in its opener and then lost 3-0 to Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday.
TIGERS OPEN AT PURDUE: The Tigers open the regular season in West Lafayette, Indiana, taking part in the Mortar Board Premier hosted by Purdue.
The four-team tournament features the Tigers, host Purdue, South Florida and San Diego, running over the course of two days on Friday and Saturday at Holloway Gymnasium in Indiana. The Tigers will open with San Diego at 11 a.m. Friday, jumping back into action at 4 p.m. Friday against South Florida, leaving just Saturday’s marquee game against the Boilermakers at 6 p.m.
“It’s all about who you play in the nonconference schedule that can help determine your NCAA fate at the end of the year,” coach Fran Flory said. “We have a chance in these first few weeks to set the tone for how we want our season to go, and have a chance to be in the conversation in December.”
LSU OPENS AT McNEESE STATE: The Tigers start the season in McNeese State’s 6K Cross Country Relay that kicks off at 6 p.m. at Ward 3 Multi-Sport Complex in Lake Charles.
The women will kick off the meet at 6 p.m. followed by the start of the men’s race at 6:30 p.m. LSU joins McNeese State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Northwestern State in the dual relay race.
