The LSU Tigers look to snap their two-game Southeastern Conference losing skid at 7 p.m. Friday against Vanderbilt on the SEC Network+.
The Tigers (7-3-2, 1-3 SEC) are unbeaten at 6-0-2 in their eight home matches this season and own a two-game winning streak against the Commodores (5-5-2, 1-2-1).
LSU owns an impressive 6-3-1 mark against Vanderbilt in their 10 previous meetings under coach Brian Lee, including a 2-1-1 edge in four matches played in Baton Rouge.
Leading the way for the Tigers is the scoring tandem of Summer Clarke and Jorian Baucom as they have accounted for 18 of the team’s 27 goals. Baucom is tied as the No. 2 scorer in the SEC and NCAA with a career-high 11 goals in 12 appearances, while Clarke has already matched her output of seven goals.
The Commodores are led Simone Charley and Lydia Simmons as both have tallied nine points.
Friday’s match with Vanderbilt marks LSU’s only match this weekend as they will return to action on Oct. 9 agaomst Missouri.
Tigers on the road for Georgia: The LSU volleyball team will kick off a two-match conference road swing at 6 p.m. Friday against Georgia.
The Tigers will face Auburn on Sunday.
LSU heads into its first pair of league road tests with a 5-8 record and 1-1 in the SEC. The Tigers have won four of their last five matches.
“I think we’ve gained a lot of confidence and will continue to gain confidence as we increase our level of comfort on the court together,” coach Fran Flory said. “I think we’ve grown each week, trained better and our results have improved because of that.”
Cati Leak leads the team with 3.63 kills per set on the year, while averaging 3.00 in league play. Katie Lindelow is second averaging 2.63. That duo also combine for 27 of LSU’s 61 service aces, as well as sitting second and third on the team in digs.
This will be the only meeting between the Tigers and Bulldogs this season, as LSU is playing in the Ramsey Center for the first time since the 2013 season. LSU has won eight of the last 10 meetings against Georgia, including the last two with LSU earning the only win between the two teams last season in four in Baton Rouge.
VALE COSTA ADVANCES TO CHARLESTON 10K QUARTERFINAL: In Charleston, South Carolina, Joana Vale Costa defeated Virginia Tech’s Francesca Fusinato 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinal of the Charleston 10K Thursday at the LTP Tennis Club.
Vale Costa returns to the courts Friday to take on North Carolina’s Caroline Price.
