LSU completes Ed Orgeron's maiden season No. 18.

The Tigers are 18th in the final rankings of the two major polls, Amway coaches poll  and the Associated Press top 25. LSU finished 9-4 and 6-2 in the Southeastern Conference, the most league wins since 2012.

The Tigers' late collapse in a 21-17 loss to Notre Dame in the Citrus Bowl results in their worst ranking finish since not appearing in the 2014 final polls.

The Tigers have now finished inside the top 25 in both polls in eight of the past nine years, but they have not finished better than their preseason ranking since 2011. LSU began the 2017 season at No. 13.

After the Citrus Bowl win over the Tigers, Notre Dame nearly made the top 10, finishing the year at 11th in both rankings. Alabama topped the rankings after the Crimson Tide beat Georgia in overtime to win the College Football Playoff national championship. Central Florida, which finished undefeated, came in at No. 6 in the AP and No. 7 in the coaches rankings.

Five SEC teams finished inside the AP and coaches poll, including Alabama, No. 2 Georgia, No. 10/12 Auburn, 18th LSU and No. 19/20 Mississippi State.
