Notable players on the All-Southeastern Conference first team announced Thursday:

Even with his recent citation for possession of marijuana, Auburn’s senior quarterback won the media vote as the SEC’s preseason first-team quarterback. Marshall finished with 1,976 passing yards and 14 touchdowns while also running for 1,068 yards and 12 touchdowns last season.

Gurley may have missed three games last season, but he still finished fourth in the SEC in rushing yards per game (98.9 ypg), and he totaled 989 yards and 10 touchdowns. Now healthy, Gurley should be a force in Georgia’s backfield.

Alabama players were popular picks among media, and the Crimson Tide’s junior wide receiver collected the most first-team votes of any position (282). Cooper made 45 receptions for 736 yards and four touchdowns last season.

The senior left tackle was the Tigers’ only preseason first-team selection, collecting 231 votes, the most of any offensive lineman. The 6-foot-5, 315-pound Collins earned second-team All-SEC honors last season after starting 12 games and collecting 65 knockdowns as counted by the team.
