LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger completed 25 of 29 passes for 340 yards, two touchdowns and one interception to lead the No. 10 Tigers to a 59-26 victory against Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss.

LSU running back Jeremy Hill rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

The game was a see-saw battle from the start. LSU took the opening possession and drove 76 yards on nine plays for a touchdown, only to have Mississippi State do the same. (The Bulldogs missed a fake field goal on the extra-point kick, and LSU led 7-6.)

LSU led 21-9 in the second quarter after a 34-yard touchdown run by Kenny Hilliard. But Mississipp State came back with 14 unanswered points to take a 23-21 lead. The Tigers finished the first-half scoring when Mettenberger threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Odell Beckham Jr. to take a 28-23 lead with 17 seconds left in the second quarter.

LSU increased its lead to 38-26 when Mettenberger threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Beckham with 14:50 left in the game.
