Cornerback Kevin Toliver and linebacker Corey Thompson were both seen in yellow, non-contact jerseys at LSU's practice on Wednesday.

No braces or wrappings could be seen from the sidelines, but it is the first day in which both players have been seen with the designation this week.

As one of the oldest players on the team, Thompson, a senior, has been one of the best pass rushers on the Tigers defense this season. He has 17 tackles this season, including a team-high four sacks. He also has a pair of quarterback hurries and another tackle for loss.

Toliver, a junior, has been backing up redshirt freshman Andraez "Greedy" Williams as the cornerback opposite Donte Jackson in all four games this season. he has five tackles this season.

Joining them in yellow jerseys on Thursday were nose tackle Ed Alexander and safety John Battle, both of who have been non-contact all week.

Alexander continues to have a soft cast on his right hand after injuring it against Mississippi State two weeks ago. He did not practice or play last week and his status is uncertain for Saturday against Troy.

Battle, a fourth-year junior, suffered what was described as a "stinger" by the LSU radio broadcast in the third quarter against Syracuse. He missed Monday's workout, but returned on Tuesday.

Other observations

  • Defensive end Rashard Lawrence (ankle) and running back Derrius Guice (undisclosed) were both absent from Wednesday's practice, despite coach Ed Orgeron upgrading them both to "questionable" status during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday morning.
  • KJ Malone, Garrett Brumfield and Lloyd Cushenberry all took reps at center during individual drills on Wednesday while starting center Will Clapp watched from the side. Clapp was not in any kind of yellow jersey or appeared to be held back in any way.
  • Starting right tackle Toby Weathersby missed his third straight day of practice. He completed Saturday's game against Syracuse and there's been no other indication he won't play this weekend.
  • Several players continue to miss drills: edge rusher Sci Martin (presumably suspension/ineligibility), CB Kristian Fulton (presumably suspension/ineligibility), edge rusher Andre Anthony (ankle injury) and DE Frank Herron (presumably suspension/ineligibility).
