Player to watch

S Eric Reid

Last week’s stats: 5 solo tackles, 1 tfl-minus-4.

State’s power spread offense will challenge LSU’s safeties in the running game and the passing game. Reid, who recovered a fumble in the opener and had five solo tackles, including one for loss last week, is one of the smarter players on the team and has become a playmaker. He’ll be one of the players counted on to slow down RB Vick Ballard and QB Chris Relf.

Player to watch

RB Vick Ballard

Last week’s stats: 21-135-1 rushing, 5-64-0 receiving.

Ballard is third in the nation with an average of 150.5 rushing yards per game, and he?s also a threat catching the ball out of the backfield. The Bulldogs will want to get Ballard rolling early to lessen the pressure on QB Chris Relf, who played poorly against the Tigers last season, throwing two interceptions in his eight pass attempts in part-time duty.
