COLUMBIA, S.C. —The No. 33 LSU men’s tennis team lost 4-2 to No. 34 Vanderbilt in the second round of the SEC tournament Thursday at the Carolina Tennis Center.
LSU (14-11) has had great success this season in the doubles point and were on a nine-match win streak before Thursday’s loss to Vanderbilt (17-12).
GOLOVIN LEADS COMEBACK WIN: Freshman Jessica Golovin rallied to win in three sets on court two to lead the No. 20 LSU women’s tennis to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over No. 23 Kentucky in the second round of the SEC women’s tournament Thursday at the LSU Tennis Complex.
Golovin, ranked No. 59 in singles, defeated No. 75 Justina Mikulskyte 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the victory and send the Lady Tigers into the quarterfinal round.
LSU moved to 18-10 for the season and reached the tournament quarterfinal for the third consecutive season.
ALLMER, KESSLER NAMED ALL-FRESHMEN: True freshman Ashley Allmer and redshirt freshman Lilly Kessler were named to the Collegiate Coastal Sports Association All-Freshman Team in an announcement by the league Thursday. Kessler also shared Freshman of the Year honors with Florida State’s Nikki Esposito.
