As it shops around for a "home run" hire for its vacant head football coach job, one media outlet is reporting that LSU plans to gauge the interest of Nick Saban, Urban Meyer and other top coaches in college football.

Scott Roussel of FootballScoop.com reported Monday, citing unnamed sources, that LSU will approach several top-notch coaches through representatives and believes the school will be able to attract a coach of the highest caliber.

Saban, whose Alabama team has been the bane of LSU's existence for several years running, voiced dismay this week about how Les Miles was fired.

Meyer, head coach of Ohio State, on Monday responded to reports about the LSU job by saying he hasn't been contacted. "I'm going to be the coach at Ohio State," Meyers told reporters, according to the website elevenwarriors.com.

Also on the FootballScoop list are Bob Stoops, Jimbo Fisher and Tom Herman.
