DUBLIN, Ohio - With sophomore Andrew Presley leading the way with a 1-over-par 73 in Tuesday’s final round, the LSU men’s golf team finished seventh in Ohio State’s Jack Nicklaus Invitational with a 54-hole score of 29-over 893 at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

Presley tied for 12th place on the individual leader board with a 54-hole score of 3-over 219.

Texas shot a 1-under 287, the only team to break par Tuesday, en route to a 54-hole team score of 2-under 862 for a 16-stroke victory. Ohio State was second at 878, Illinois finished third at 884, Kent State was fourth at 885, and UCLA fifth at 886.

Illinois’s Thomas Pieters led wire-to-wire en route to a two-stroke victory at 7-under 209.

Swimming and diving

HALEY, BETTRIDGE EARN WEEKLY SEC HONORS: LSU junior swimmer Sara Haley was named SEC Female Swimmer of the Week, and freshman diver Alex Bettridge was named SEC Female Freshman of the Week after the duo contributed to LSU’s 193-98 victory over Tulane.

Haley won the 200 butterfly in 1 minute 59.51 seconds, and the 500 freestyle in 4:59.00. She also helped the Tigers to two relay wins, swimming the front leg of the 400 free relay and the back of the 200 medley relay.

In her first collegiate meet, Bettridge notched the sixth-highest 1-meter dive score, 318.00, in program history. Her six dive score qualifies her for Zone Regionals.

The Tigers face Florida State in at 2 p.m. Friday in Tallahassee, Fla., and meet Florida at noon Saturday at Gainesville, Fla.

Women’s basketball

LSU RANKED 24TH IN SPORTING NEWS PRESEASON POLL: The LSU women’s basketball team under first-year Lady Tiger head coach Nikki Caldwell is ranked 24th in The Sporting News College Basketball Preview magazine on newsstands now.

The Lady Tigers are one of four Southeastern Conference teams ranked, joining No. 4 Tennessee, No. 15 Georgia and No. 18 Kentucky.

LSU will have a practice open to the public from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
