Possessing a deft touch, he shot 47.3 percent as a junior, hitting 38.5 percent from 3-point range, and was an 82.1 percent free-throw shooter when he was named the Gainesville Sun’s co-boys player of the year after averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds.

BRIEFLY: A McDonald’s All-American who produced a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds in the all-star game, Reid led Roselle Catholic to the state title while averaging 14.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks. He had 18 points and 16 rebounds in a loss to Oak Ridge and future LSU teammate Emmitt Williams in January.

BRIEFLY: Smart played the point for Scotlandville and led the Hornets to three state titles in four seasons. Smart, who should fit right in Will Wade’s offense at the point or at shooting guard, is the only three-time winner of the Louisiana Gatorade player of the year award. He was the Class 5A most outstanding player three times.

EMMITT WILLIAMS

BRIEFLY: Williams was the Class 9A player of the year in Florida after helping Oak Ridge to a state title when he averaged 17.6 points, 12.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks. He won the American Family Insurance dunk title last month and was MVP in the Jordan Brand Classic on Sunday when he poured in a classic-record 44 points.
