John Diarse: Wide receiver.

Fehoko Fanaika: Offensive tackle. Junior-college transfer who could be immediate contributor.

Anthony Jennings: Quarterback.

Christian LaCouture: Defensive end. Could see quick playing time considering LSU’s losses at defensive end.

Avery Peterson: Wide receiver.

Ethan Pocic: Offensive lineman.

Hayden Rettig: Quarterback.

Logan Stokes: Tight end. Junior-college transfer who will provide depth at his position.


Vadal Alexander: Offensive lineman. Forced to grow up quickly, making nine starts at right tackle. Cemented as LSU’s starter there for 2013.

Ronnie Feist: Linebacker. Played five games in 2012. Has seen early looks at defensive end in spring practice.

Reid Ferguson: Deep snapper. Immediately came in and became LSU’s starting deep snapper in 2012.

Jeremy Hill: Running back. After originally signing with LSU in 2011, Hill became LSU’s leading rusher last season with 142 carries for 755 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Lamar Louis: Linebacker. Played 11 games with five starts in 2012, recording 13 total tackles. In mix for starting role at strongside linebacker with Tahj Jones and Kwon Alexander.


Kenny Hilliard: Running back. Enrolled early despite NCAA Clearinghouse issues, blossomed late in 2011 with eight touchdowns, three total touchdowns in SEC championship game. Relegated to more of a backup role in 2012 but still second on team with 82 carries for 464 yards, six touchdowns.

Anthony Johnson: Defensive tackle. One of the nation’s top prospects, Johnson earned freshman All-America honors in 2011. Part of LSU’s rotation in 2012 (13 games, three starts, 30 tackles, three sacks), he is set to be a starter in 2013.

Zach Mettenberger: Quarterback. A junior-college transfer, Mettenberger played a backup role in 2011 behind Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee before becoming LSU’s undisputed starter for the 2012 season and going into 2013.


Kendrick Adams: Defensive end. A junior-college transfer, started 23 games in two seasons (49 tackles) before signing a free-agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012.


Drayton Calhoun: Running back. Played one game in two seasons before transferring to Middle Tennessee in 2010.

Chris Garrett: Quarterback. Never played at LSU, transferring to Northwestern State in 2010.

Derek Helton: Punter. Became LSU’s two-year starter out of junior college with a career 42.5-yard average, third-best in school history.

Kevin Minter: Linebacker. Became a two-year starter at middle linebacker and an All-Southeastern Conference standout before turning pro after the 2012 season.

Russell Shepard: Wide receiver. One of the nation’s top prospects, Shepard was a four-year contributor for the Tigers but never became the star he was projected to be.


Patrick Peterson: Cornerback. Turned pro after three seasons, earning All-America honors and winning 2010 Bednarik and Thorpe awards.

Scott Rabalais
