The Sept. 9 rupture of a major cross-country pipeline has caused gas shortages and higher prices across the southeast, but LSU fans traveling to Auburn shouldn’t expect to be inconvenienced to any large degree.
The American Automobile Association office in Montgomery, Alabama, said Thursday it has received no reports of complaints or shortages in the area, which is less than an hour west of Auburn.
According to GasBuddy.com, gas prices in Montgomery range from $1.88-$2.19, $1.82-$2.29 in the Auburn-Opelika area.
The leak near Helena, Alabama, just south of Birmingham, resulted in a spill of 252,000-336,000 gallons of gasoline. The line, which carries 1.3 million gallons of gas per day from Houston through Louisiana to New Jersey, resumed operations Wednesday.
