Before the season, LSU senior gymnast Myia Hambrick wasn’t expected to be the Tigers’ anchor on floor exercise.

So far in 2018, there hasn’t been anyone better anywhere.

The nation’s No. 1 on floor, Hambrick recorded her second straight 9.975 Friday against Kentucky. Tuesday, she was rewarded with her second Southeastern Conference gymnast of the week honor after finishing with a career high all-around score of 39.700, tops in the SEC this season. Hambrick was also gymnast of the week after LSU won in week two at Florida.

“I didn’t have any expectations” of doing this well on floor entering the season, Hambrick said. “That’s probably a good thing. The key for me is to go out there and do my gymnastics and do what I’m doing in the gym. I’m doing the passes I’ve been doing for three or four years.”

This is the fifth SEC honor in 2018 for LSU. Junior Sarah Finnegan was gymnast of the week twice (Alabama, Arkansas) and Sami Durante was freshman of the week (Alabama).

Alabama’s Kiana Winston was named SEC specialist of the week, while Arkansas’ Sarah Shaffer took freshman of the week honors.

No. 3-ranked LSU travels to face No. 24 Missouri at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The meet will be shown on the SEC Network.
