LSU may have signed more than just the three stars next to Zach Sheffer's name on Wednesday.
The hybrid tight end didn't get the flashy recruitment rating some of the more high profile positions receive, but with a reported 28 offers to his name, he was as highly sought after as anyone coming to Baton Rouge next year.
Sheffer was expected to go to Ohio State, but a trip to LSU in the summer sealed his commitment to the Tigers.
Sheffer will likely fit into LSU's H-back spot that loses JD Moore after this season, occasionally going out to catch passes on top of blocking duties.
He also received offers from Auburn, Michigan, Louisville, Mississippi State.

At a Glance: While many thought Sheffer was destined for Ohio State, the hybrid tight end committed to LSU over the summer before taking an official visit in October. Sheffer is expected to be an early enrollee.
What They’re Saying:“Sheffer is really your prototypical H-back. He blocks, he’s a good route runner, he can catch the ball well. H-backs aren’t getting ranked four and five stars, but Sheffer was a guy who had Ohio State knocking on his door and a lot of people thought he’d end up there, but LSU hosted him this summer and landed what was really a surprise commitment there. When you look at pure offer sheets out of this whole class, Zach Sheffer really had one of the better top to bottom list of options in front of him.” - 247Sports recruiting analyst Shea Dixon.
