After helping the LSU softball team to a sweep of nonconference opponents Nicholls State and No. 6 Oklahoma, LSU junior infielder Bianka Bell repeated as Southeastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday, and pitcher Carley Hoover was named the SEC’s Freshman of the Week.
Through seven weeks, an LSU player has earned one of the conference’s weekly honors six times.
Bell is the first player in program history to earn the award in consecutive weeks. This is the first award for Hoover this season; she joins fellow freshman Allie Walljasper, who earned the nod in the second week of the season.
The Tigers host South Alabama at 6 p.m. Tuesday (to air live on the SEC Network) before a trip to Kentucky opens Friday in Lexington.
In three games last week, Bell was nearly unstoppable, finishing with a .700 batting average with seven hits, nine RBIs and three runs. Of those seven hits, three were home runs; she is now tied for the team lead with 12.
Hoover held Oklahoma to two hits for a shutout to improve to 8-1.
