SCOUTING REPORT, Auburn: Auburn’s most dangerous hitter is Brendan Venter, who has made an immediate impact in its lineup after transferring from the junior college ranks. Venter has 12 home runs on the season and has been especially hot late. He has connected on five home runs in a current 10-game hitting streak.

SCOUTING REPORT, LSU: Ace Zack Hess has been a bit streaky in his debut season as a starter, and he was not particularly strong in two of his past three outings. Last week, he needed 95 pitches to get through five innings. He said Wednesday the key to his good days is when he is getting ahead of hitters early in the count so he can deploy his put-away pitches later.
