The College Football Playoff’s selection committee updates its rankings Tuesday. Here’s how The Advocate’s Ted Lewis and Scott Rabalais see it shaking out:

Ted Lewis

National semifinals

Sugar Bowl (7:30 p.m. Jan. 1 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome)

No. 1 Florida State vs. No. 4 Auburn

The Seminoles keep living on the edge but should be rewarded for coming from behind to win at Louisville. Ditto for the Tigers for winning at Ole Miss, although it took a miracle fumble to make it happen.

Rose Bowl (4 p.m. Jan. 1 in Pasadena, Calif.)

2. Mississippi State vs. No. 3 Oregon

How can the Bulldogs beat Arkansas at home by a touchdown and expect to win at Alabama and Ole Miss later on? We’ll find out. The Ducks look better every week and may be No. 1 before it’s over.

The other CFP bowls

Cotton: Baylor vs. LSU

Peach: Ohio State vs. Marshall

Orange: Michigan State vs. Duke

Fiesta: Arizona State vs. TCU

National semifinals

Sugar Bowl (7:30 p.m. Jan. 1 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome)

No. 1 Mississippi State vs. No. 4 Oregon

The Bulldogs have appeared mighty vulnerable in their first two weeks at No. 1 and are ripe for a fall at Bama or Ole Miss. The Ducks are flying high after battering old nemesis Stanford.

Rose Bowl (4 p.m. Jan. 1 in Pasadena, Calif.)

No. 2 Florida State vs. No. 3 Auburn

After rallying to win at Louisville, it’s unlikely the Seminoles will be denied another unbeaten regular season. Auburn still has a tough road (at Georgia and Bama) but again looks like destiny’s darling.

The other CFP bowls

Cotton: TCU vs. Colorado State

Peach: Alabama vs. Notre Dame

Orange: Clemson vs. Kansas St.

Fiesta: Michigan St. vs. Baylor
