LSU only scored 53 points last season in a loss to Nicholls State that was once of the low points of an 11-21 season.

In Saturday's season opener against the Colonels, LSU scored 51 in the first half.

LSU looked considerably more offensive than a season ago, putting seven players in double figures in a 96-74 win over Nicholls State at the Maravich Assembly Center.

The extra offense came largely courtesy of a heralded freshman class. Anthony Hickey led LSU with 14 points and five assists. Johnny O'Bryant had 12 points and 8 rebounds and John Isaac scored 13 points

They weren't the only players to get involved for LSU. Andre Stringer (12), Ralston Turner (12), Justin Hamilton (11) and Storm Warren (10) also scored in double-figures for LSU, which led 51-40 at halftime.

Trevon Lewis scored a game-high 19 points for Nicholls State.
