NAPA, Calif. — The LSU women’s golf team, looking to find the late season momentum before Southeastern Conference tournament play, opened the Silverado Classic with a strong round of 5-over par 293 that puts them in a tie for third after the opening 18 holes Sunday.

Stanford finished as the leader with 2-under-par 286, with tournament co-host Colorado at 2-over 290 in second. LSU is tied for third with Oregon.

LSU’s five players proved consistent from top to bottom. Freshman Marina Hedlund and Kathleen Gallagher led the Lady Tigers with even-par rounds of 72. Both golfers are tied for ninth place, five shots out of the lead of Cathleen Santoso of Oregon who posted 5-under 67.

LSU also counted a 2-over 74 from Elise Bradley and a rallying 3-over 75 from Sydney Cavin, with Nadine Dreher at 4-over 76.

Men’s golf

Tigers’ rally falls short at Aggie Invite: at Bryan, Texas, four Tigers broke par in Sunday’s final round at the Aggie Invitational to lead a furious comeback as LSU fired a 7-under- par 281 to finish two shots behind champion Oklahoma State.

Sam Burns led LSU with a 3-under 69, while Eric Ricard carded a 2-under 70 and Zach Wright and freshman Luis Gagne added matching rounds of 1-under 71.

Oklahoma State finished level par for the tournament to claim the team title with its 54-hole score of 864, while Arkansas finished nine shots behind the Tigers in third place at 11-over 875, North Texas followed in fourth place at 12-over 876 and Baylor was fifth at 18-over 880.

Gagne and Wright tied for fourth place on the individual leaderboard at 1-under par 215.

Men’s tennis

Tigers fall to Georgia 4-3: LSU wrapping up its home Southeastern Conference schedule, 4-3 to No. 7 Georgia on Sunday

LSU’s Justin Butsch and Tam Trinh took down Georgia doubles team of Paul Oosterbaan and Jan Zielinski, 7-5.

Gabor Csonka and Andrew Korinek took a 7-6 (7-5) win over Wayne Montgomery and Emil Reinberg to give LSU the doubles point.
