LAFAYETTE — After earning All-American honors in the 800 meters at the NCAA indoor track championships last Saturday, LSU senior Blair Henderson went the distance Friday.

He went a greater distance, that is, for the Tigers in their outdoor opener in the Louisiana Classics at Louisiana-Lafayette's Ragin' Cajuns Track Complex.

Henderson, who was seventh in the 800 meters at the NCAA meet last week, moved up and competed in a special 1,500 meters race on the first day of the two-day meet.

Henderson had no trouble handling the extra distance and won the race by nearly a half-second in 3 minutes, 48.75 seconds to highlight a light slate of action for the Tigers and Lady Tigers.

LSU had two athletes finish second in their respective events on Friday evening.

Just after Henderson's stepped off the track, Dajour Braxton took second in the men's 10,000 meters with a time of 30:15.26.

Earlier in the day, the Lady Tigers' Sidnie Wilder was the runner-up in the hammer with a throw of 178 feet, 6 inches.

The meet will conclude Saturday with the field events starting at 10 a.m. and track events getting under way at 2:30 p.m.
