Former LSU All-American Lynnika Pitts on Monday night earned a spot in the women’s triple jump finals at the U.S. Olympic trials when she finished 12th in the qualifying round in Eugene, Oregon.

Pitts, a former East Ascension star who also competed in the long jump and high jump for the Lady Tigers from 2011-14, earned the final spot for the finals, set for Thursday at Hayward Field.

Pitts, who finished fourth in the triple jump at the 2014 NCAA championships, was in 14th place Monday and in danger of not making the finals until she uncorked a big jump. She sailed 44 feet, 0¾ inches with a legal wind on her third and final attempt to move into 12th, earning the final spot by 2 inches.

Keri Emanuel, another former LSU All-American, finished in 16th with a wind-aided best of 43-8¾.
