Omaha World-Herald columnist Tim Shatel sat down with LSU’s “Voice of the Tigers” Jim Hawthorne for an in-depth look at Hawthorne’s long career in broadcasting, including some memorable moments in Omaha at the College World Series.

Including this one:

“Line drive, way back, way back, HOME RUN! TIGERS WIN! TIGERS WIN!”

To this day, Hawthorne told Shatel, he doesn’t recall what he said immediately after Warren Morris hit LSU’s most famous home run. He just remembers he wanted to cry. And later that evening, he did.

That was one of many fond memories recounted in the interview by Hawthorne, who is broadcasting his final LSU baseball season and plans to retire after the football season.
