LSU football enters 2016 loaded with returning starters and star players, but Tigers still have holes to fill _lowres

For a second time this season, the Southeastern Conference honored an LSU offensive lineman and running back on the same week.

Derrius Guice is the SEC’s Freshman of the Week, and center Ethan Pocic is the league’s Offensive Lineman of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning.

Guice set career highs with 16 carries and 161 yards, leading the team – including Heisman Trophy frontrunner Leonard Fournette – in rushing during the 45-24 drubbing of South Carolina. Guice broke at least eight tackles in the game, including four on one play.

Pocic helped lead the way for an LSU team that ran for more than 7 yards a carry and finished with 396 rushing yards and 624 yards overall – the most in an SEC game for the school since 1987.

The No. 6 Tigers (5-0, 3-0) are revving up for an undefeated, top-10 showdown against No. 8 Florida (6-0, 4-0) on Saturday night at Tiger Stadium.

LSU players have been a mainstay each week on the league’s player of the week awards. Fournette had won it three straight weeks, and Vadal Alexander and Fournette won it on the same week.
