LEXINGTON, Ky. — The LSU track and field team got off to a solid start at Kentucky’s Rod McCravy Memorial Track & Field Meet at the Nutter Field House as Rodney Brown and Jada Martin turned in personal-best performances to rank among the NCAA’s elite in their respective events Friday
Martin sprinted to victory in the women’s 200-meter dash with an indoor personal best of 23.44 seconds to move to No. 3 in the early-season NCAA rankings ,while Brown unleashed a nearly five-foot personal best of 68 feet, 6 ½ inches in a runner-up finish in the men’s weight throw to catapult himself into the No. 13 spot on the national list in 2015.
Vernon Norwood nearly set a personal best while cruising to victory in the men’s 600-yard run, and Tremayne Acy and Nataliyah Friar had impressive performances in the 200 meters and long jump, respectively.
Saturday’s action begins at 10 a.m. with field events, followed by track events at 11 a.m.
Swimming and diving
LSU TO COMPETE AT TEXAS A&M: The LSU swimming and diving team travels to College Station, Texas, to face Texas A&M in the final dual meet of the season Saturday at 11 a.m.
LSU TRAVELS COLLEGE STATION FOR ITA KICKOFF TOURNAMENT: The No. 45 LSU men’s tennis team (2-0) will travel to College Station, Texas, for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Kickoff Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers were originally scheduled to open play on Friday before their match was postponed because of inclement weather in the area.
LSU will face No. 33 San Diego at noon Saturday. Other teams competing include No. 10 Texas A&M and No. 37 TCU (1-0).
LSU TRAVELS TO NORTH CAROLINA FOR ITA KICKOFF WEEKEND: The No. 37 LSU women’s tennis team travels to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for the ITA Kickoff Weekend, facing Boston College at 8 a.m. Saturday and either North Carolina or Minnesota on Sunday.
