SAQUON BARKLEY

Penn State junior RB

HIS CASE: An open date may be good for the body, but it’s rarely good for the Heisman candidacy. Barkley will get his chance to prove himself to voters soon enough with a trifecta of games against Michigan, Ohio State and Michigan State.

THIS WEEK: Saturday vs. Michigan (6:30 p.m., ABC)

BRYCE LOVE

Stanford junior RB

HIS CASE: While Barkley rested, Love kept churning with 147 yards and two touchdowns rushing in a 49-7 rout of Oregon. Love leads the nation with 1,387 yards rushing (with 11 TDs), averaging a vote-grabbing 10.3 yards per carry on 135 attempts.

NEXT GAME: Thursday at Oregon State (8 p.m., ESPN)

BAKER MAYFIELD

Oklahoma senior QB

HIS CASE: Threw his first interception (gasp!) against Texas but still went for 302 yards and two TDs in a 29-24 win. Overall he has 1,937 yards and 17 TDs passing. It’s his bad luck this may be the year of the RB.

THIS WEEK: Saturday at Kansas State (3 p.m., Fox)

ON THE RADAR:

Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett, Sr.; Alabama QB Jalen Hurts, So.; Louisville QB Lamar Jackson, Jr.; Oklahoma State QB Mason Rudolph, Sr.
