UL-Lafayette — Sr. LHP Colten Schmidt (1-0, 1.69 ERA. 16 IP, 1 BB, 15 K)

Scouting report, LSU: Three days removed from his LSU debut, freshman right-hander AJ Labas will return to the mound in a starting role Wednesday in Lafayette. He threw just 32 pitches Sunday against Southeastern, his first appearance since December back surgery, and impressed coach Paul Mainieri with his command of three pitches in the strike zone. By starting Labas Wednesday, LSU is leaving the door open for a different pitcher to start Sunday’s game against Hawaii. Mainieri said Tuesday he would wait until Thursday to announce who that would be.

Scouting report, UL-Lafayette: In Cajuns southpaw Colten Schmidt, LSU will face its seventh left-handed starting pitcher in 14 games. Schmidt has gotten off to a strong start this season, allowing three earned runs in nine combined innings against Texas and Southeastern before firing seven shutout innings in his last appearance against Nicholls State … Offensively, the Cajuns currently rank as one of the most anemic teams at the Division I level. Their .177 team batting average ranks fourth to last nationally, and their 2.5 runs per game ranks 288th of 297 Division I teams.
