The Tigers are No. 16 in the final AP rankings released Tuesday morning, finishing ranked in that poll nine of the last 12 seasons – an expected result. LSU finished the season 9-3 with a drubbing of Texas Tech in the Texas Bowl. The Tigers entered that game 22nd.

LSU was 14th in the AP’s preseason poll in August.

LSU running back Leonard Fournette finished the year as the nation’s leader in rushing yards per game at 162.75 yards, and the Tigers’ rushing offense ranked seventh nationally.

The Tigers finished 25th in total defense – the worst ranking for that unit since former defensive coordinator John Chavis’ first season in 2009. LSU finished 39th in total offense – the third-best ranking for that unit in coach Les Miles’ 10 years. Miles’ group was 106th in passing offense.
