Barely a year after his final start at LSU, Aaron Nola is set to make his major league debut.

Nola will start for the Philadelphia Phillies at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies announced last week that Nola would get the call from Triple-A Lehigh Valley; he’s in line to make his debut barely 13 months after he was drafted with the seventh overall pick.

“I just want to be the best that I can be,” Nola told Philly.com on Monday. “I just want to go out there and give it everything that I have. And every time I step in between the lines, try to keep the team in the game and give us the best chance to win.”

Nola, a 22-year-old former Catholic High standout, told Philly.com that he reserved 20 tickets for his family and friends, who are set to arrive in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

“I was kind of shocked,” he said of his promotion. “But this is definitely a good opportunity and a blessing to be here.”
