Football players are back practicing, and, hey, everybody has issues, and the teams in the powerful Southeastern Conference are starting to address those right now. Our Scott Rabalais looks at the 14 teams, their records from last season, key spring dates and what they face in the quest to get to the top.

LSU (8-5, 4-4)

Practice begins: Saturday

Spring game: April 18

Hot topic: Yes, quarterback. But LSU must find a center, adjust to Kevin Steele’s defensive style and decide who plays CB opposite Jalen Mills.

Alabama (12-2, 7-1)

Practice begins: Friday

Spring game: April 18

Hot topic: More issues than normal for the Crimson Tide, which must also decide on a QB. More importantly, Bama has to restore its defensive rep without Landon Collins.

Arkansas (7-6, 2-6)

Practice begins: March 16

Spring game: April 25

Hot topic: The defense was an unsung hero of the Razorbacks’ resurgence last season, but several key starters are gone. JUCO DT Jeremiah Ledbetter will have to play big.

Auburn (8-5, 4-4)

Practice begins: Tuesday

Spring game: April 18

Hot topic: The focus will be on how much magic can former LSU defensive coordinator Will Muschamp work. Also big: Jeremy Johnson replacing Nick Marshall at QB.

Florida (7-5, 4-4)

Practice begins: March 16

Spring game: April 11

Hot topic: Muschamp left the Gators super thin on the O-line (just eight scholarship players) and at linebacker. First-year coach Jim McElwain has his work cut out.

Georgia (10-3, 6-2)

Practice begins: March 17

Spring game: April 11

Hot topic: Bulldogs will be the SEC East favorite, but they go into the spring not knowing who will play QB and with their first completely new defensive staff since 1964.

Kentucky (5-7, 2-6)

Practice begins: Saturday

Spring game: TBA

Hot topic: Can the Wildcats go unbeaten? Sorry, wrong team. UK is one of the few teams with a returning QB. Can new offensive coordinator make Patrick Towles a sharper weapon?

Ole Miss (9-4, 5-3)

Practice began: March 3

Spring game: April 11

Hot topic: Cutting down on turnovers with controversial new QB Chad Kelly. Rebels haven’t had less than 10 INTs in a season since Eli Manning was a senior (2003).

Mississippi State (10-3, 6-2)

Practice begins: March 18

Spring game: April 18

Hot topic: The Dak (Prescott) Attack returns for a sequel, but the Bulldogs have to compliment him with a running game after Josh Robinson left early for the NFL.

Missouri (11-3, 7-1)

Practice begins: Tuesday

Spring game: April 18

Hot topic: Maty Mauk returns at quarterback, but redshirt freshman Marvin Zanders wants equal time under center. Will Mizzou tinker with a two QB system?

South Carolina (7-6, 3-5)

Practice begins: March 17

Spring game: April 11

Hot topic: Another team dealing with a quarterback mystery. Will it be Connor Mitch? How about Perry Orth? Or Michael Scarnecchia? Jon Hoke is in to beef up the defense.

Tennessee (7-6, 3-5)

Practice begins: March 24

Spring game: April 25

Hot topic: The Vols lead the SEC with 18 returning starters. Avoiding the hype and spring distractions over an expected return to contention in the SEC East looms large.

Texas A&M (8-5, 3-5)

Practice began: March 2

Spring game: TBA

Hot topic: Will John Chavis be able to rapidly improve the Aggies defense, or will he be distracted by a subpoena over the LSU buyout lawsuit during practice?

Vanderbilt (3-9, 0-8)

Practice began: Feb. 16

Spring game: March 21

Hot topic: Can Derrick Mason do enough to keep his job? The second-year Vandy coach is already on the hot seat and will call his own defense.
