He may be listed as an athlete, but Tae Provens' commitment to LSU may help fill a need in the Tigers' 2018 recruiting class.

Provens, a Gurley, Alabama, native, offered his pledge to LSU on Saturday, marking the 20th commitment to the Tigers' 2018 class. He tweeted the news, signing off his message with, "Come join us."

Provens is officially listed as an athlete, but he plays primarily running back for Madison County High. He chose the Tigers over Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina and Louisville. His primary recruiter was LSU running backs coach and recruiting coordinator Tommie Robinson.

The 5-foot-11, 187-pound prospect is rated as a three-star player, according to 247Sports, and is ranked as the 50th-best athlete in his class. Provens is the sixth commitment Ed Orgeron has secured in the last week — four for the 2018 class and two for the 2019 class.

Orgeron has previously said LSU planned to sign at least two running backs in the 2018 class, needing to retool a position that is set to lose draft-eligible junior Derrius Guice and senior Darrel Williams at the end of the 2017 season.

One of the six commitments the Tigers have gained over the last week was a 2019 running back: Southern Lab's Tyrion Davis.

LSU could receive more commitments in the coming days as more than 500 players are on campus for LSU's elite prospect camp, the biggest and final prospect camp of the summer.
