COLLEGE STATION, Texas — LSU’s baseball game against Texas A&M is scheduled to begin at 9:45 p.m. Thursday at Blue Bell Park after heavy rains delayed it from its original 8 p.m. start time.

The Aggies players pulled the tarp off the infield shortly before 9:10 p.m. as the grounds crew worked to sweep standing water from the warning track in the outfield. Standing water elsewhere in the outfield had drained quickly.

Tigers coach Paul Mainieri, Aggies coach Rob Childress and the umpiring crew conferred at about 8 p.m. Radar showed that a cell of heavy rain was approaching the College Station area, which had been drenched late in the afternoon.

They decided to allow the approaching system to pass, and it did after heavy rain fell for about 30 minutes.

SEC rules say a game cannot begin after 10 p.m.
