1. WHAT WE LEARNED
Never count the Crimson Tide out. Never. It took a last-play touchdown for Clemson to beat Alabama for the national title last year. This time, a 13-0 halftime deficit and a 20-7 third-quarter deficit was not enough to keep the Tide from yet another national title in a 26-23 overtime victory against Georgia. Bama at times lost its poise but never its confidence, even after missing a field goal to win at the end of regulation.
2. TRENDING NOW
Tua is the new Bubba in the state of Alabama. Children will be named for Alabama backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after he came off the bench to start a second-half run to glory. He rallied the Tide from two touchdowns behind to the winning 41-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith to end it. It was a desperate move Nick Saban, but when you have no other choice sometimes desperate turns into a winning bet.
3. FINAL THOUGHTS
Critics said Alabama didn’t belong in the College Football Playoff. Heck, it didn’t even reach the SEC Championship Game. You could argue Alabama was not one of the four most deserving teams, but once again it proved to be one of the four best. And Saban? There’s never been a better college football coach. At least LSU fans, tired like everyone else of losing to him, can claim the first of his six national titles.
