-- Position: Linebacker
-- Height: 6-foot-2
-- Weight: 242 pounds
-- High School: Plainfield South High School, Plainfield, Illinois
-- Strengths: Garrett wasn’t ranked as a five-star linebacker recruit on both 247Sports.com and Scout.com for no reason. The freshman showed off his pure power and tackling ability during the tuck-and-roll session Wednesday morning.
-- Must improve on: During his recruitment, Garrett was clocked at a 4.79 40-yard dash time. As a freshman, he still has more than enough time to improve, but look for Garrett to work on his speed throughout fall camp and the season.
-- Linebacker Deion Jones said: “He works hard in the weight room, and he pushes himself out on the field. He’s a little lost right now because it’s only Day 3. But day-by-day, I see him gradually coming along.”
-- Projection: With six juniors and two seniors on the LSU linebackers corps, Garrett will have to fight for playing time during the upcoming season. Expect him to see game action against the occasional nonconference opponent, but he shouldn’t settle into a starting role for another year or two.
