A source confirmed to The Advocate on Tuesday night that coach Will Wade is adding Wichita State assistant Greg Heiar to his staff.
Heiar has been with highly successful Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall for the past six seasons, starting in 2011-12 after he spent two years as an assistant at Southern Miss, his first job at the Division I level. Prior to that, Heiar was an assistant and then head coach at Chipola Junior College in Florida.
Gary Parrish of CBSSports.com was the first to report the move.
Parrish also tweeted that LSU is among the schools in the mix for Memphis guard Markel Crawford, a fourth-year junior who announced Monday that he is transferring.
Crawford, Memphis' second-leading scorer this past season at 12.8 points, is expected to graduate next month — which would make him eligible without having to sit out a season. Crawford also averaged 4.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists this season. He also is being pursued by Texas, Arkansas, Florida State and Ole Miss.
